Ellie was doing okay. Rae nodded her head and sniffled, thinking about her friend in quarantine. A small part of her resented Eloise. If not for the bright idea of having live infected in the compound, this wouldn't have happened. If not for Elliot knowing about the live infected in the compound, this wouldn't have happened. Ellie's experiments had caused so much pain that it would've been impossible for Rae not to hold a little resentment for her friend. And she'd have been lying if she didn't resent Rory a little bit, too. But Rory had brought a gun. If not for that... she probably wouldn't have had the chance to say goodbye.
And besides that, Rae didn't have the energy to be angry right now. She was devastated, and she'd used too much energy being devastated to be angry. Besides, she'd need her friends. And being angry at them would just make things worse. "Good. I'm... I'm glad she's going to be okay."
Turning to look at Rory when she touched her hand, Rae blinked hard and swallowed thickly. "I'm changing my last name." A statement, not something submitted for approval. "I... know there's no official paperwork or whatever to do it and it won't make any true, real difference. Like, it doesn't mean we're married or anything. But... I'm taking his last name." She looked down at the shirt in her hands and pulled in a deep, shaky breath. "Honoring him. You know? And letting people know that he's mine. That I'm his. He deserves it."
She looked down at her tummy. "And I'm changing his name, too." She put the hand not under Rory's on her tummy, still holding onto the shirt with half of her fingers. "Naming him after his daddy. Do you think... do you think those are silly ideas?"
