Who: Ben and OPEN Where: NY Public Library When: Tuesday What: Playing doctor Rating: TBD
Ben could remember when people used to get pain medicine before they got stitches. That injection had been the most painful part. 'You'll feel a small pinch' they would say, and you would realize their interpretation of 'small' was considerably different than yours. These days, it just wasn't an option, not for something as simple as sutures, too much of a luxury. Personally, he suggested someone's hand to clench or something to bite down on.
The girl in front of him was no different. The gash on her leg had to be stitched up or risk getting infected. Ben had offered to do the job and was focusing on the wound before him instead of the simpering he was hearing. "Almost done," he assured her gently, watching the string move- down and through, loop loop, tug. Down and through, loop loop, tug. He had always expected to be doing this some day, but not like this, not in the middle of a library turned safehouse during a zombie apocalypse. He could still remember the idea of living in a nice house- maybe somewhere in the suburbs with a nice lawn. A dog, maybe two. That was all a pipe dream now, but Ben did his best not to think about it, and his smile never faltered as he finished up the last stitch.
"Remember if it starts looking infected, you need to come talk to me or someone else, okay?" Earning her nod of consent, Ben eased back in his chair, setting his instruments aside with a soft sigh. Just another day in the life of Dr. Ben Richards. He snorted softly to himself. If this virus ever came to an end, he was going to have one hell of a resumee.
