The sounds of the security detail (lead by calls of "Lilly!" in a man's voice) were approaching fast, and somewhere in the back of her mind, she heard and acknowledged them, but for the time being, this man in front of her had Lilly's complete attention.
Her heart was still hammering in her chest, but Jacob had calmed enough to twist in his mother's arm, chancing a little fear and sniveling shyness to look at him. Lilly wasted no more time; she stepped forward, offering the high-respect of giving him her hand in a shake. It was an old habit of the political, probably well outdated, but this was the way Lilly Reeves showed her exasperated esteem.
"Yes, thanks to you--" she started, still a little breathy. "I'm Lilly..." She tipped her head toward the sounds of the encroaching group. "Please... I know we need to move quick, but if there's anything you need...."
