While it was true that Evan had always been a night owl, and while he generally preferred doing his looting and scavenging overnight to the morning hours, when fall approached winter he became less and less of a fan. Yeah, there was less competition and yeah it was a whole hell of a lot easier to move about, but it was cold. Evan had noted no fewer than ten times over the course of the night prior that it was almost time to pull his winter jacket out. There was only so much that kinetic energy could do, after all.
The fortunate new development of solar power brought heat and a little bit of long-forgotten comfort to safehouses, but when it came to everything else; when it came to every other place in the city? They were still just as susceptible to heat and elements as anywhere else. He feared the first snowfall, because well, it had been a few years and buildings (outside of safehouses and commonly-occupied areas) weren't weathered anymore and he was just waiting for the first moment that they started crumbling. They'd really be screwed then.
Always the master of cheering himself up, Evan found that with that thought process, he was quite firmly settled in his grouchy mood by the time he had reached Park Avenue. Today was going to be a fun day if he did anything other than sleep.
He'd just turned the corner to the street when he heard the cry. It was unmistakable. Merde, he thought with a wince. He darted his head around in search of the waker in the area. So close to the safehouse? If it was allowed to live, it was only a matter of time before it lured a hoard to the safehouse. And if Evan didn't take care of it before it became a problem? Well… it would be a pretty big one, that was for sure.
His hand reached his kukri knife and he listened carefully for the sound, jogging off in the direction it came from and only changing direction when the waker's cry did.
He hated these things. He desperately hated them. Only things he thought of as worse were exploders. But all he could think of was the hoard it would bring along with it… and Danny and Georgie, sitting completely unaware in that safehouse.
