It was a huge risk being in the lab when there were infected test subjects present. Elliot knew this, but he was here anyway. Recent discoveries following the Fourth of July fireworks display had made him curious as to what went on down here in the Death Chamber. As a medical professional, he wanted to see just what was going on with these zombies.
Everyone present was capable. Elliot did hold a great deal of concern for Eloise, the smallest member of this science team. She, along with Lilah Stone (who wasn’t present on this particular day), was the most clever on the team. He was more worried for any incident that might arise where the zombie broke free and wreaked havoc in the lab.
Rory’s presence was what eased his mind. She had a lot more to risk than he did. She was a mother with a young son. If she was here, that had to mean she was confident in what was going on here.
Elliot stood against the wall, watching quietly as the technicians brought the test subject in and preparations went into effect to subdue the creature.
Only… things didn’t seem to get too far.
It happened so fast that Elliot’s mind could barely process what was happening before he realized that… the zombie was free. Calm wasn’t in his range of emotions now. A zombie was free in the lab.
Everyone who wasn’t immediately involved in the restraining and sedating had backed away or run for the door. In the back of his mind, Elliot knew that was probably the best option. He’d brought no weapons with him into the lab — a stupid mistake he sorely regretted — which meant that the best option was to get out and get out fast.
He was about to do just that when he noticed Eloise still standing in the middle of the floor, teetering slightly on unsteady feet. It didn’t occur to him that the crash that knocked her down inadvertently drove the syringe of sedative into her hand. Elliot’s only coherent thought was the zombie’s going after her.
He reacted without thinking, shoving aside one of the other technicians in his rush to get to Eloise before the zombie did. The jerking tangle of limbs made it hard to tell if the woman had been hurt. One arm wrapped around the zombie’s middle, while the other went around his chest, securing him and keeping him from tearing Eloise apart. However, in his rush to subdue the zombie, Elliot miscalculated his grip, and the zombie sank his teeth into Elliot’s hand.
