Caitie was... really glad that she had the mask on, because at that point, her cheeks probably matched her hair. “Sorry,” she muttered, slightly embarrassed. Though it probably just sounded like a blabbing whisper through the mask. “Old habits.” People didn't take her seriously a lot of the time because of her size and age, so she had to justify herself a lot of the time. “Good to know I got your approval, though,” she added.
Making a face when Maddie mentioned the cobwebs, she nodded her agreement. “I've ran into a ton of cobwebs, yeah. I had to whomp a undead rat with my sneaker, too. Almost got bit, but I didn't,” she cringed at the memory. “It's fun, though. Sneaking around up above people and never getting caught. I got the idea from that weird Stone sister.” She had never announced it or anything, but Caitie had seen her climbing into the vents a few times. “I'm glad you asked me along here, though. Gave me a chance to stretch my sneaky muscles outside of vents.”
“True,” Caitie laughed. “I think I'm supposed to like that stuff since I'm a teenager but I always thought Bella was a creepy albino who was way too stinking obsessed with that boyfriend of hers.” She shrugged. “Ryan thought the space stuff was super cool for some reason. Brothers are weird.”
Caitie shrugged. “Okay, yeah. Maybe an uncle then. Either way...” she moved her head from side to side, as if pondering. “I bet he is. He's probably immune and running all the things down there in Arkansas, and tempting the zombies with his Cubans.”
Rolling her eyes, Caitie nodded. “Like there aren't more important things to worry about than hooking up, y'know?” she sighed, exasperated. “Like, oh, I dunno, surviving to see the next day or something?” She wasn't jealous or anything. And she totally wasn't concerned about the fact that she'd never had a boyfriend before. “Ha!” she laughed—probably a little too loud—at Maddie's mention of that phrase. “That's an actual worry now, isn't it? Being the last guy on earth. But he's probably not getting lucky. Bet old-Stone has icicles down there.” Mean old lady.
Moving over to the cabinet while Maddie took the closet, Caitie pulled it open and started looking around. “Seeing anything interesting? I've got a couple fancy lookin' paints in here.” She shrugged. “Other than that, though, he seems wicked boring.”
