“If you weren’t immune, we probably never would’ve met and I might’ve died that day,” he affirmed, reminding her of the day they’d met, the day she saved him. He shook his head and forced a smile. “”It’s better this way. I wouldn’t want to not know if you were immune. Trips like these would make me worry even more about you.”
The smile went away and he ducked his head when she said she wouldn’t ask him to not leave the compound. With circumstances the way they were, there wasn’t a decision that could make everyone happy.
His smile quirked again in response to her joke. “We have alone time just about every night,” he pointed out. “So what part of that would prove to me that none of those other dudes matter?”
Elliot shrugged and nodded. “I guess so. It’s hard to avoid the What If game sometimes.” She playfully reminded him again that they were at their best together and he grinned. “Very true.”
“Cupcakes will be an excellent addition to my winnings.” He pursed his lips in thought for what else he could offer. “Singing.” He looked at her. “If it’s a girl, I’ll serenade you both.”
He smiled softly when she thanked him. “If anyone’s to thank, it should be me thanking you. Without you, I wouldn’t be here. I wouldn’t have found my brother. Wouldn’t be starting a family. Wouldn’t be… anything, really.”
Elliot leaned down to press his lips to Rae’s, his free hand going to her waist to pull her closer to him. His smile widened when he felt the little bump between them. “You ready to head back so we can brag to everyone about how we felt Little One move?”
