Rae sighed and nodded her head, lowering it in vague embarrassment. "Yeah. I hate it because I know you're capable, you know? You're so much stronger than most anyone else in the whole compound but that one thing just weighs on my mind all the time..." she said sadly. "If I could trade places with you, I would. You know? Know that you were immune and not know if I was..." she admitted. It wasn't like she could leave the walls anyway. Or like she even wanted to.
She shook her head no. "I wouldn't ask you to do that, babe. It would drive you nuts. Lord knows it's hard for me to ask, especially when it's the likes of Leah." Or him. She hated when he had to go out there for her. "I'm sorry. I'll stop thinking about it." Or, she'd try, anyway.
"Well, we obviously need to be choosy about who gets thrown into the pit. Or, I could just reassure you that none of those other dudes even matter. You know, by doing things that involve a night of alone time and the other half of your clothes coming off..." The concept was punctuated with a nod and a squeeze of his butt.
With a chuckle, she nodded and conceded to his point. "Fair enough. But aren't you the one who always says that it doesn't hurt to wonder sometimes?" she asked with a smirk of her own. She laughed once, softly, when he pointed out that she couldn't get enough of him now. "I guess you have a point there. It's mutually beneficial, if you ask me. And we're both at our best when we work together," she wagged her eyebrows suggestively.
"Plus, if by some miracle of nature you're actually right, I'll bake whatever kind of cupcakes you want. Just for you. No one else gets to touch 'em. That's how I'm sweetening the pot. What about you?" she winked at him.
She shook her head and looked down at her tummy. "I think we're awesomest when we're together, Little One," she told the baby. "We're both pretty spectacular on our own, but when you team us up? We bring a whole new meaning to the word Dream Team." She paused and smiled a little bit again. "And you'll add to that, Little Baby. Make the best pair in the whole world, into the best trio." She chuckled again. "I didn't think it was possible to be this happy at the end of the world, babe. Thanks, you know? For helping me find it."
