“Lilah would definitely get a kick out of it. Developing more useful fireworks. Suddenly, I have an image of someone shooting a firework right at a zombie. Making it burst into colorful lights and body chunks and fire...” she chuckled in spite of the semi-gruesomeness of the image. She looked down when he mentioned the infected dogs. “I still can't believe David took you out before the threat was really... gone, you know? I know we wouldn't have found out about the fireworks if he hadn't but...” she didn't finish that thought. They'd both come back, and neither of them were any worse for wear. That was what was important.
She laughed. “Sarah always used to tell me that I would be the best Big Brother contestant,” she pointed out with a wry little grin. “Just smart enough to take people off guard and to know who to follow, but sweet enough to get the popular vote.” She let her grin go slightly impish. “That's totally how I'm plotting my world domination, by the way. But don't you worry, Steel. As boyfriend, you get the first-man privileges. All the perks of world-ruler, but when we're in our world-ruling castle, you always have to walk around at least half naked. That's my first decree.” A sage nod served as punctuation.
With a fake glare and pursed lips, Rae nodded her head yes. “Don't worry. She will,” she said as she poked Elliot in the side.
He expanded her list and her smile grew even more. “And not that candlelight wasn't nice or anything? But constant electric lighting is definitely a nice throwback to the good old days,” she said with a chuckle. Six months. “I still say that we've been together more than two years,” she pointed out. “Because yeah, it's only been official that long? But when I met you... I knew there was something special about you. I just... wanted to make you smile all the time.”
Rae was... used to being ignored by Leah. Maybe that was why she wasn't as bothered as Elliot was by the fact that Leah was ignoring her. “I half expect Evan to challenge us to a rematch. But we're totally ready for him. We'll kick his fancy French butt.” Because they were the best team she'd ever seen.
David's relationship, or lack thereof, or whatever it was, with Ellie was something that they didn't quite see eye to eye on. He needed to do what made him happy. Life was too short to be depressed forever, and he was definitely still feeling the effects of what had happened with Allie. But David was Elliot's brother, and Elliot knew him better than Rae did. So she deferred to his judgment here.
His smile made hers grow. Funny how it always had that effect on her. “You'll be the best influence in its life,” she told him seriously. “Why don't you tell it a story?” she said with a little smile. “You come up with enough silly stories to last a lifetime, so we'd better get Little One used to them early.” She looked down at his hand on her tummy, then back up at him. “Besides, I'm kinda in the mood for a silly Steel story right now.”
