David hadn't really checked Rae out. From the moment they met when Rae brought Elliot to meet with David again, it was pretty clear that she was Elliot's property. But pregnancy definitely suited her. And he'd be lying if he didn't say, “Rae was always sort of pretty, but she definitely has a figure that's complimented by pregnancy.” He shrugged. “It's weird for me to look at her like that, though. She's... Elliot's girl. You know? Like my sister.” Essentially, Elliot and Rae were married without the technicality.
When she went silent, David did too, thinking about how much his own, personal world had changed since Rae had brought his brother back into his life. It was just... good. For the first time in ages. Life was good.
She spoke again and David chuckled once in response. Low tolerance. He half-smiled and relaxed a little bit further in his chair. “Good stuff?” he asked arbitrarily, unaware that his first question had set her mind spinning as it had.
The silence, once again, was not awkward, but strange. And David glanced down when she leaned against his knee. “Why?” he asked her. Not that it really mattered why; it just seemed like the appropriate thing to ask when someone told you something like that.
