When she waved at him, he nodded a hello in response. His hands were occupied, or else he'd have waved at her in return.
David had invited Ellie along so he felt a little less awkward, but he hadn't taken into account how solitary they both were. They'd been there for an evening, and he was pretty sure they'd only talked once or twice. But in retrospect, that probably shouldn't have surprised him as much as it did. Now that she was here, though, he let a little smile cross his face. He was always happy to see her. Always.
He really didn't notice any changes to her hair. Or maybe he had noticed them, but he didn't see them as bad. He thought she was pretty still. Maybe the hair was a little bit unkempt, but it added to her charm, as far as David was concerned.
When she put the hat on his head, he chuckled once and looked up at it, then back down and smirked at her. "Thought it was my style, huh?" he asked. He probably looked a little ridiculous, but if it was what she wanted.
"So, what do you think?" he asked, glancing up from his current task. "Are you glad you came along?"
He was fairly certain she partookâhe remembered her mentioning something about it in the forums around the time they got to Sing Sing, so when he was finished, once he'd lit it, he'd offer her some.
