She was taking a break from the shop when the storm started. For the first time in a few days, Kori had let Mike take Penny to spoil rotten while she got caught up on all the projects she hadn’t gotten to yet. Not that it was Penny’s fault but she was a rambunctious little thing that preferred to nudge her mommy’s hand away from a pair of pants Kori was sewing than sit and wait, albeit impatiently, for the work day to end.
As it was she probably should have skipped lunch and kept working but if she stared at another swatch of cloth while marking it up for a pattern her eyes were going to melt out of her head. And she needed them if she was going to make the shop work.
Unfortunately, for her the storm caught her in the middle of the yard as it started pouring. And it was cold. Cursing softly she took off for the nearest building; it just happened to be one of the older buildings that most people avoided. Sighing she shook her head to get the water out of her eyes, At least its dry. She wandered through the building figuring she might as well satisfy her curiosity of the place while she was there.
Gathering her hair over one shoulder she wrung it out as she walked. God I’m soaked. She thought shaking the residual water from her hands.
Eventually she came upon another shelter seeker which surprised her. It probably shouldn’t have, but seeing as most people avoided the place she hadn’t expected to see anyone else. “Hello.” She called announcing her presence so as not to startle the woman. But when she didn’t answer Kori frowned a little. Not everyone was nice and friendly and all that jazz but even a curt ‘leave me alone’ would have been polite.
Drifting closer Kori tried again her voice a little louder but still received no response. When she was closer enough to touch the woman she tapped her on the shoulder to get her attention as she started talking again. “Quite a storm isn’t it? I got completely soaked thinking I had more time.”
