WHO: Mimi and Kori WHAT: Escaping the rain. WHERE: An abandoned cell block. WHEN: 06/22/19, afternoon. RATING: Medium at highest. STATUS: In progress
When the ground beneath her feet started rumbling just slightly from thunder, Mimi figured she had time. She didn't have to cut her run short. Since she'd taken on kitchen work for Rae while she recovered, she hadn't really had a lot of time to go on morning or evening runs anymore, but today she couldn't wait anymore.
Retrospectively, she probably should've.
Mere seconds after she felt the thunder, she felt a light sprinkling of rain. At this point, though, it still wasn't an issue. She was on the opposite side of the compound now, and she figured all she needed to do was turn around and head back. She could still beat the heavy rain, she figured. Of course, she only managed to make it ten or so running steps before she realized she was wrong.
Out of nowhere, that soft sprinkling turned into a downpour that bordered on torrential. She needed to get the hell out of the open, and fast, before she caught a cold or something.
In a jogging run, she ducked into the nearest building, which just so happened to be one of the old, unoccupied cell blocks, and glanced out a dusty window just in time to see a bolt of lightning zap out of the sky and hit the ground, probably twenty miles away.
I'm so tired of rain, she thought with a roll of her eyes. It had rained so much more this year than any year she could remember.
