“After so much time spent living in the city, this place feels like way less of a prison than it should,” Rae mused, more profoundly than she realized. If they were still back in the city, she'd probably still be in that facility, and Elliot wouldn't have lived long enough to save her. Either that or, pregnant or not, she'd have been forced to run for supplies and whatever else the government would've had her do. Thankfully, they weren't in the city anymore, so it was a non-issue. As long as the government didn't raid again. The thought made the nervousness a little less positive, but she tamped it back for now. “I feel like we've become a little bit spoiled here.” Aside from the occasional government raid or zombie threat, anyway. She shrugged. “Only a little, anyway. It's nice. We've earned it.”
Rae chuckled. “I'll teach them to tap-dance,” she nodded. It had been a long, long time since she'd tap-danced, but she still remembered some of it. Really, since started becoming visibly pregnant, she hadn't danced a whole lot. “If they want to learn, anyway. Now I'm seriously wondering if there are baby tap shoes in Ossining somewhere.” A laugh, because she thought it was a ridiculous notion. “I bet someone could make them. Stick metal plates on the bottom of normal shoes and...” she trailed off. Nervous rambling again. She felt her cheeks turning pink and ducked her head. “Rambling. Sorry...” she giggled a little.
Once again, Rae wanted to say that mothering adults and mothering a child were different things, but she shrugged instead, allowing his reassurance to do what it was intended to do. “I do my best, anyway. I think we'll make a pretty awesome team, though. Since we do on every other thing we do together,” she added with a bit of a grin. “Feel like I can take on the world as long as you're helping me out, so... parenthood? Bring it.” She nodded once in resolution and winked at him.
A stupid pang of jealousy hit Rae when she realized that their baby wasn't the first he'd be seeing on that screen, but she tamped it down, because he needed to know what he was doing, so it was for practice. Just practice, she reminded herself, shoving that jealousy out of her mind. “Have I ever been worried about trusting you with anything?” she asked with an incredulous look on her face, then watched him set about his work with a small smile on her face, chuckling lightly every time he made a joke.
It was amazing, watching him do his medical thing. Reminded her of the look in his eye when he'd patched her up on the day they met. “Medical Steel may be my third favorite type of Steel behind Cuddly Steel and Sexy Steel. Just so you know,” she added with a waggle of her eyebrows.
He asked her if she was ready and she gave him a nervous half-smile and a nod, pulling in a breath and letting it out slowly. “As I'll ever be. Let's get this show on the road, babe.”
