At his trading comment, Laney raised her eyebrows. Why was he telling her that? She clearly hadn't wanted it. He could have waited until she moved on and then taken it for himself. If he was so good at trading, then he obviously saw the value in something so useless. It was suspicious, and it put the girl on her guard, even if that hadn't been his intention.
"Who wants a gun that doesn't work?" she asked, keeping her eyes on the piece of metal in his hand. She moved slowly toward the door, her sword in her mind. She just wanted it. It would make her feel just a little bit safer, even if this guy still hadn't drawn his weapon. And she knew he had one. Everyone did these days. "Are there firing pins laying around that I don't know about?" Before he could answer, she knew that it was 'yes'. Everything was lying around if you looked hard enough for it. Someone who knew what they were doing and what they were looking for could find one easily. But she meant to distract. Get him talking as she gravitated toward the only thing that tied her to her brother anymore.
"And why are you telling me anyways? Wouldn't it make more sense for you to just take it? Are you going to give it back to me or something?"
