"When are those questionable?" Evan asked seriously. In Evan's experience, Elliot hadn't given any bad advice and he'd only ever harmed people to defend those he loved. Anyone who could fault him for that was someone that Evan didn't want around. If anyone, even Elliot himself, tried to argue that? Evan would fight them as hard as he could. Even now.
He chuckled vaguely when Elliot called it his 'throne.' "Don't call it that, please," he muttered. "That's something that Harlow guy said. Treats me like an entitled tyrannical monarch or something." He snorted and rolled his eyes. "But yeah. It's more or less like that. I have so many plans for this place, you know? Things that I'd rather see myself do than anyone else." Not because he wanted people to appreciate him, but because he wanted to make a safe place for people to live.
Another humorless laugh, and Evan nodded. "Yeah. I may be a metrosexual artist, but apparently I still have some of those typical guy traits that women hate," he joked.
"I'm glad they're both okay." But everything else he'd done? Rory was a mess, it seemed like Leah was angry at him for getting her daughter back, and Charlie was saddled with a kid she wasn't even sure she wanted. Getting the girls back was good, but that was just about the only good thing he'd done at that facility. "It's hard to trust everyone around you when you just want to do it yourself. I get that. If I'd been with Leah when they'd taken her, I don't think I'd be here today." He would've done exactly what Elliot did. "Or I would, maybe, but I definitely would've been just as upset as you were." He almost said crazy, but he figured it was probably best not to poke at that.
Rolling his eyes in response to Elliot's reminder, he shrugged. "I didn't. But thanks for the warning," he said sarcastically.
Part of Evan wondered if Elliot would actually think of it, but he didn't want to bring that up either. More arguing was the last thing either of them needed right then. "It's just harder since Leah stepped down, you know? I've got two irrational people leading with me, and then Charlie, who's been known to be pretty irrational herself. So I appreciate that you're even thinking about it." He smiled a little more genuinely.
"No," he shook his head. "I need to face it sooner or later. And... I kind of want to see her right now, you know? Just to... see her." His expression went sheepish.
