Date night had to be postponed, but that was okay, it wasn’t as though something like that couldn’t be rescheduled, nor was it like he and Rae never saw one another. Sometimes more important things came up, like saving his friend’s life. As far as Elliot could tell, whatever had happened to Evan wasn’t life threatening, but it wasn’t something that could be ignored either. He suspected it had something to do with the fact that his friend had been overworking himself lately. Elliot had warned him about that not too long ago, and now here they were…
Tonight was supposed to be his free night away from the medical ward, but with his friend lying unconscious on one of the hospital beds, Elliot hadn’t wanted to leave him alone. He figured Evan would feel more comfortable waking up to find a friendly face observing him, rather than dealing Rory’s unpredictable moods. Not that Elliot blamed the doctor for acting the way she was, but she’d been through a similar trauma as Rae had and he wasn’t quite trusting of her self-control yet.
It didn’t take him long to assess that Evan was merely suffering from exhaustion and stress, rather than any physical wounds, and once Elliot was certain of that, he decided to allow Evan a few hours of rest before he tried to get in touch with the other two Marchands or Leah.
Around midnight, Elliot sent a quick text to Rae, checking in and also asking if she’d mind going to find George or Danny or Leah and inform them of the situation. Tracking down the Marchands was apparently an impossible task tonight, but Leah — Elliot learned, via texts from Rae — was in her room with a sleeping Marigold and would be down as soon as possible.
It was also around this time, amid a text conversation with Rae, that Elliot heard a weak voice coming from the other side of the white curtain that served as a partition between the beds. He walked around to the other side, raising his eyebrows when he saw that Evan was finally awake.
