It's me, babe. I'm here. It was just like it always happened in her dreams. Just like what he always said to her when she dreamed this moment. That was the only thing keeping her from believing this to be true.
Rae pulled in a sharp breath, unaware (or uncaring, she wasn't sure which) about the tears that sprang to her eyes when she realized who that voice belonged to. "I... you..." she stumbled with her words. "You're here..." she whispered. His arms were outstretched and she blinked, some of those tears leaking out of each eye. It was really him. And he came to save her. Just like the hero she knew he was.
Stepping forward, she threw her arms around him and buried her head against his neck, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Th-they told me they'd kill you if you came for me. That you'd forget about me," she spoke against his skin, her exhausted body completely sinking against his. "They told me that I'd... I'd never see you again." Her voice was hysterical, still dripping with fear and desperation, but now that she knew it was him, she allowed a little relief to seep into it. "I thought you'd... I never thought..." she didn't know how to finish that sentence, but she was afraid that if she stopped talking, she'd wake up or something. That this would turn out not to be real.
Really, she should've known that he'd come for her. Wasn't it her who always said he was her hero? That he was the bravest person she knew? Shouldn't that have been enough to tell her that he'd come for her? She should've believed harder.
Moving her head from his shoulder and looking up at him with tear-filled eyes, she leaned forward just slightly and pressed her lips to his. "I missed you..." she whispered. "I... I thought about you all the time and it was the only thing that kept me going. You and Little One..." she added softly. Because not including their child in that statement didn't seem right.
"I'm sorry," she whispered. "For everything. For stupidly trying to protect everyone and for getting taken and for losing faith..."
