To be honest, Rory had no idea where her question had even come from. It wasn't like friends would help make this situation bearable, make it better. These men had told Marigold that she had no mother, and if that held any weight to a girl her age, she'd think she was unwanted because of it. Friends wouldn't help with that. Rory had an unfortunate enough experience after having a mother, so imagining how it would be in a government facility without one, it could only be ten times worse.
And then AJ's waking state gave Rae cause to mouth a silent bombshell, so there really was no point in Rory attempting to reply. Saying she was stunned was an understatement.
"Of course," she managed, letting AJ go completely. He'd heard the list of games she played, and that was enough for the boy to happily slide from his seat. Once that had happened, Rory turned to her friend, brow furrowed and confusion clear on her face.
"What do you mean, Leah's daughter? How do you know?"
