The little girl grinned and waved back at AJ. She still didn’t understand what the grownups were asking her, but she’d learned from past experience that not answering questions could get her into trouble. “Yeah. Lots of friends,” she answered. “They always stealing my toys, though.”
“There’s already kids with those names,” Marigold said when Rae suggested a name change. She pointed at the boy in the corner who was still picking his nose. “He’s Twenty-eight.”
Marigold fiddled with her skirt and kept glancing back and forth between Rae and AJ. She was starting to get bored. “Farm,” she answered. “And house. And Go Fish. We’re not o’posed to play hide-an-seek, but some kids do it anyways.”
