After her initial attempt to snatch up a needle, Rory had transitioned into simple observation when she was taken in to have her blood drawn. They weren't taking much, just small, inconsequential samples, but the room was equipped with far too much for simple blood draws. Rory knew what biopsy needles looked like, she knew what the various monitors and machines were for. And so she had cause for concern, reason to worry beyond the obvious threat of being captured and detained.
She didn't know what these men had planned, but if the facility was to suggest anything, it was that these women weren't kept for the sake of their children. These people didn't care about keeping a family together; they were experimenting. With what, Rory couldn't say, but she had a feeling they wouldn't stop at taking her blood. She had a feeling something worse was very near in her future.
But she couldn't share those concerns with Rae.
"Honey...you were there because I asked you to be. You wouldn't be here at all if not for that. So don't blame yourself. I can't have you blaming yourself." Rory's own guilt was locked away with every other irrational, horrified, angry emotion she had, tucked far enough back in her mind to keep from clouding her thoughts, but she knew if Rae was blaming herself, the woman was suffering unnecessarily. This situation was bad enough without piling on unjustified blame.
Keeping herself from sighing, Rory let her thumb rub against Rae's hand, a gesture she personally found comforting. It made her think of Finn, of his tendency to take her hand, stroke her skin with his thumb. And that made her think of how rough his hands were, how perfectly calloused and masculine. Like the sigh, Rory forced the rest of those thoughts away. She couldn't handle them, not now. Not when Rae had Elliot to miss, and Rory had her friend to help.
"I know you miss him. But you know he'll be doing everything he can to get you back. They all will, everyone there. It'll take time to plan, but they'll be prepared. And they'll have the element of surprise...you have to believe in that. Nobody will die. Nobody but these bastards keeping us here."
