Whereas Rory's awareness of everything happening was dimmed, Rae's was acute. Heightened. She heard the woman cry. Heard Rory telling the woman to take her son. Heard AJ cry. No, she thought as she put her fist into another scientist's face. No, Rory, run! she commanded in her head. Tell Elliot, they won't be able t—that thought was interrupted by the sharp pinprick of a needle hitting her neck. "What did you just do?!" she screamed at the scientist. "What did you do to me?!"
The man's voice was eerily calm, once again. "It won't harm you or your baby, sweetheart. You'll just get sleepy. Don't you worry about that," he reassured her blithely.
He'd sedated her. And Rory was next. "You're monsters!" she shouted, still fighting, even as the sedative weakened her. "You're crazy. D-don't do this!" she shouted, but it sounded more like a whimper.
Quite obviously, she didn't have a lot of fight left in her. Her limbs felt heavy and her eyes felt droopy. "Rory... AJ's... g-go. Y-you have to g..." her hand raised to grab at the coat of the scientist closest to her. She felt her hand clumsily go into the pocket of the man's coat, but her brain, however hazy it was becoming, managed to tell her to grab hold of his ID tag and drop it to the floor. To tell whoever came into the room what had happened. "H-hurry..."
But that was all she had in her. The sedative was too strong. It had worked too fast. With a weak whimper, Rae's body went limp, and she was out cold.
