The more she had to repeat herself, the less Rory believed that this would be fine. None of them had come into the class believing they might need to protect themselves. Rory didn't even have her knife on her, let alone the gun Rodeo had given him back at the Library. And these women were proving to be frustratingly useless when faced with danger. There was so much hesitation, so much shocked curiosity. Rae was keeping her cool, and so was she, but that appeared to be it.
And that scared her, honestly. If women kept pausing in the doorway, looking back, they weren't all getting out of this. And she had a hard time believing they could scamper off to safety without someone like Rae or herself explaining how. But snapping wouldn't do them any good. And so she kept her tone even when she said "There are men coming for us. Move your asses now."
AJ was beginning to tug at her shirt, clearly starting to get scared because of all the shouting and noise. Rory took a moment to turn to him, force a smile to soothe his nerves, but before she could tell him Mommy was there and it would be okay, Rory heard gunfire. Very, very close to them.
Her gaze snapped to the window, just in time to see blood explode from a man's temple, and stunned horror would've been the choice reaction if Rae wasn't talking about buying time. If Rory couldn't plainly see that her friend wasn't armed, that she'd need her help. So Rory grit her teeth and grabbed one of the last remaining women by the arm, dragging her to the door. "Run!"
Not that running would do her or Rae any good. Daniel Stevens knew as much when he heard the woman shout, but the blonde one was in front of him, and he decided to address her first. He even went so far as to hold his hands up, despite the gun in his grip, to try and put her at ease. He had the lead on this, so the other men with him would need to see it out with him. The pregnant women and mothers were not to be harmed. "Hey, you don't have anything to worry about. We're not here to hurt you. We just want to help," he promised her sincerely.
