Cutter felt almost zen while he prepared such a ridiculously normal task. It had essentially been the same when they had built the chicken coop on the roof of the library, but back then things between them had been different and he had been tense, always making sure to keep a certain distance between them so he wouldn't get any wrong ideas. Now he didn't have to worry about it, at least not as much. He still didn't want to rush anything, because of his unresolved issues and because he thought Adelaide wouldn't appreciate it, either. She had been engaged but he refused to think about that at all. Pretending that she was new to all of this was a lot easier.
He only noticed her when she spoke up, he had been so deep in thought he hadn't heard her. "Ain't no way I accept a mess when it comes to carpentry." he grinned and removed the toothpick from his lips to give her a quick kiss. He was dirty and didn't want to ruin her clothes. And they were outside, he simply wasn't a fan of public displays like that, even if nobody was around to witness them. In fact he wasn't even sure if she wanted this at all, if she wanted to make it public or not. In his mind he was quite a downgrade from her fiance, although he had never met him Cutter had a certain picture in his head and it was basically the opposite of everything he was. His thougts keep going back over this again and again, even though he had initially dismissed them he couldn't help but wonder.
"Thought we could do the chair first, cause it would make sense if we went room huntin' before makin' the bed." He intended to build the bed as large as possible and for that he would need measurements of the room. It would also help him figure out a style, because he had always wanted to build a log bed but he was currently very short on logs, so he figured they could come up with something practical, maybe include some shelves or drawers underneath to give some extra storage opportunities.
