WHO: Finn & Rory WHEN: May 4, 2019. Evening. WHERE: The roof of Finn's building WHAT: Drunken Battle Bots RATING: tba
Finn sat on the roof of the building where he'd claimed his space, making a few last adjustments to the robots that were his prized possessions. It didn't really occur to Finn to wonder if this was considered a good thing to do with a girl - so he didn't see why Rory might not. It was maybe part of the reason that his marriage hadn't worked - she'd thought he was charming when they were dating, thought his eccentricities were cute, but later she'd expected him to change, to want the things that she wanted and to leave behind so much of this stuff. Finn wasn't near compromising enough for that, and beyond that it had just plain made him angry and cranky, contrary in a way that wasn't charming any more at all…
He frowned at his train of thought, and replaced the panel covering Thorverine's wiring. Where his brain had been going with that kind of thinking he wouldn't say. He'd spent the last few days buried in work, Ellie's water supply project among others, but the work wasn't quite complicated, wasn't quite engrossing enough to keep this thing from his head, and he'd thought about it. A lot.
He knew he liked Rory, was attracted to her. Obviously. There really wasn't any debating that. He wasn't as certain about her. He'd seen how she acted with other people, the casual flirting and overt innuendos - even with women, which amused him to no end. The only difference he could see was that he ruffled her - not much, and not often, and never obviously, but he did and he liked himself plenty enough to acknowledge it.
Shaking his head, Finn replaced the last screw, tested all of the bot's functions briefly and was satisfied with them. He stood up, wearing the usual standard of cargo pants and t-shirt, messy hair and just a little bit of engine oil. It never occurred to him to change any of that. When he could see her coming from a distance over the roof's edge, Finn jogged down the stairs to the front of the building to meet her with a grinning hello.
