Sakura doesn’t love him, she’s still pining after Sasuke after three years. But Naruto loves her to the point where he’ll do what she asks, even if it hurts. So when she comes to him late one night and asks him to be Sasuke, he complies without a word. He can’t blame her because he did the same thing. Some nights, when Jiraiya wasn’t there to see, two shadow clones in the forms of Sasuke and Sakura would hold him until he fell asleep and they disappeared into puffs of smoke.
He kisses and touches her in a body not his own, and she kisses back and cries because they both know it’s an illusion. Sasuke kisses her tears away and that only brings more. Naruto won’t cry because that’ll only make Sakura sadder. The next morning tastes bitter.
The second time she asks, he uses a clone for the henge, and both reality and illusion embrace Sakura as she finds tears in her eyes again. Team 7, reunited. This is what should be, but will never come to pass. This time, Naruto cries too.
