Professor Dumbledore thought his plan was going brilliantly. Granted, he did feel a bit bad about spying on his students, but it had to be done in the name of their safety. He was amazed at how much they divulged not only to the world at large, but behind privacy hexes. It was all very telling and gave him a sense of renewed hope though he did worry about some such as Regulus, Severus, and Barty. He had worried before, but seeing their interactions made him fret all the more. Still, there was James and Sirius and Alice and Remus and Lily...perhaps he had enough to succeed. Perhaps.
So he set up his office to welcome the students. He had lemon drops, biscuits, and tea awaiting.

WHEN: Tuesday, immediately after class
WHERE: A random corridor

Ernest believed himself to be a wretched head boy. He wanted to make even a small difference, but whenever he opened his mouth, it seemed he invited mockery and scorn. He wasn't exactly naïve; he just trusted easily and didn't want to jump to conclusions. Unfortunately, this often left him open to being taken advantage of. He was trying to be supportive of everyone, but the recent fight between Barty and James made him feel like a total failure. He wasn't sure the professors even cared one bit. He planned to journal the parties involved since he hadn't witnessed the event, but…what could he do? Points? Detention? Offer to talk? No one took him seriously. Other than Alice perhaps. Or maybe his Housemates. The Gryffindors? Not likely. The Slytherins? Also not likely.
For that, Ernest was walking around in a daze. He had just left his last class and was walking rather aimlessly as he thought about the short time he had been back at Hogwarts.

WHEN: Sept. 1
WHERE: Great Hall

The cheers gave way as the final first year was sorted and took his spot at the Ravenclaw table. It had all gone smoothly and now it was time for Professor Dumbledore to introduce his staff, state the rules --especially the one concerning the Forbidden Forest -- and talk about his new brilliant plan for cooperation amongst the students and staff. Still, as much as he desired to prattle on about the leather books, he took great care in attending to every detail the student body needed to be aware of. Then, finally, his eyes twinkled just a tad bit more than usual as he proclaimed he had a delightful way for the classes to know one another. He explained the charms while stressing they had the right to privacy hexes. He took questions and, lastly, emphasized that the students were to write at least once a month to avoid detention. Followed by a concluding nod and smile, he encouraged all to eat and be merry.
