It's their second Christmas together. D.W. still doesn't come to the family gathering, but Everett doesn't let it bother him. He knows better than to press the holiday spirit onto his boyfriend. That doesn't stop him, though, from coming over to D.W.'s apartment after the festivities are over with a box wrapped in plain brown paper and tied with a blue ribbon. "Honey," D.W. sighs when Everett comes in with the box, reluctantly accepting it. "I thought we agreed on no gifts." "You'll like this one," Everett promises, sitting beside him on the sofa and squirming beneath the blanket wrapped over his lap. Slowly, D.W. opens the package, his expression softening at what he finds. "I made them," Everett explains quietly as D.W. removes the gloves from the box. "They're wonderful," D.W. murmurs, slipping them on after a prompting nod from Everett. They're warm and snug, and D.W. smiles despite himself, leaning into Everett's arms. "Thank you. I didn't know you could knit." "I'm slowly learning," Everett replies softly, smiling and kissing his boyfriend's temple. "Maybe next year will be socks. And then a hat the next year and maybe even a sweater the year after that." D.W. chuckles quietly, warmth soaking through to his core. "I'll have a whole wardrobe by the time you're done." "Oh, I'll never be done with you," Everett promises, kissing D.W.'s neck, making the other man sigh. "You're mine forever, babe." "And you're mine," D.W. agrees, lifting his head for a kiss that chases away the last bit of cold. |
