"One Mississippi. Two Mississippi. Three-" Thunder. Tiffany shivered. The storm was getting closer. Lightning flashed and Tiffany counted. "One Mississippi. Two-" Thunder. Tiffany curled up tighter in her bed, trembling. It was almost there. She could already hear the rain thudding against the roof, against the window, everywhere. It was surrounding her, coming at her from all directions. She hated the thunder. The lightning didn't bother her. The rain didn't bother her. But the thunder. The thunder hunted her, found her there, huddled in her bed, pounded all around her. "Tiffany." A voice cut through the growing panic, chasing it away. Tiffany looked up, eyes wide, at Jason. He stood there in the doorway, her savior. "Jason. The thunder. It's coming-" Jason sighed as he came into the room, nudging her over and sitting on the bed beside her, leaning back against the headboard. "You know I won't let it." Tiffany curled against him, sliding down to rest her head in his lap, closing her eyes when she felt his fingers in her hair. Jason would keep the thunder away. He always did. And when Jason felt her relax, he sighed again, just resting his hand atop her head. "See? The storm's already passing." Tiffany smiled. "One Mississippi. Two Mississippi. Three Mississippi. Four..." |
