Mathieu didn't need to look to know that Yitzhak wasn't in bed.
He couldn't feel the usual press of a nearby person's emotions, for one. He had a slight headache, but that was typical after sleeping in the same room with someone; it would pass within the hour. Secondly, Mathieu could clearly feel rays of sun on his covers. Yitzhak was an early riser. Rolling onto his stomach, Mathieu buried his face in his pillow as he made some hasty calculations. From what he could remember of the room's layout... and the supposed angle of the window to his trundle bed... he groaned, the pillow muffling the noise. It wasn't early, not in comparison to when he usually woke up for school, but it wasn't late either — and this was supposed to be a vacation.
"Je dors. Je dors," he mumbled, as if telling himself that would make it go away. 'It' being the bright light, wonderful smells rising up through the floorboards, and his general consciousness. Another groan. "Non, non, non." He didn't want to wake up. In fact, he refused to wake up.
