Tory himself could not drive, so he thought nothing of it. He rode in them and his parents owned a number of them over the years, but it was never required of him to learn to handle one himself. There were people that did that professionally, such as the taxi driver that he paid to arrive here in the first place. He would rather prefer to go with Laura's brother than hire such a conveyance again. The family car seemed like it would smell nicer. If he cared about money, he would consider that taking a ride with her brother would be cheaper, but such things rarely occurred to him. If she was self conscience in any way, he had no concept of why she should be.
Still, he wanted to close the distance, or maybe he wanted her to. As much as she seemed to enjoy their time underneath the mistletoe, it was still a situation were it was acceptable to kiss someone who did not return the feelings. It would be worse, he thought, if he kissed her now and she pulled away than if he never tried.
When she began to turn away, his resolve failed him. Reaching out, he stopped her by placing a light but slightly possive hand on her upper arm. It was not demanding, nor did he force her to turn around, but it was enough to indicate that he wished her to stay. He affirmed the message by adding, "Must we leave so soon?" His voice was pitched low, so as not to carry down the hallway through the open door. It was a question meant only for her ears.
He did not know if she would stay or not, but he rather wished she would. His intentions showed on his face, as he did not bother to hide them. However, he still kept some of his feelings back, out of fear that he might be burned or rejected.
