The smile helped ease some of the remaining embarrassment from her and she smiled back. She supposed that if he wasn’t running away screaming yet that was a good thing. If she were to be completely honest with herself she’d expected much worse in terms of how that had gone anyway. But she’d leave her mother’s less than stellar attitude to her father, he lived with her long enough to know which buttons not to push if he wanted her to be more personable.
“Alright.” Getting away from the main common area of the house didn’t sound too bad to Laura’s ears either. She paused for a moment as they passed the stairs back down to the door so that Tory could get his bag and then up the short stair case to the next floor. Her home was built a little strange with its many short five or six stair staircases. But it suited them well enough.
She pointed out the bathroom as she led him down the wide hallway. The guest room being all the way at the end with her parents room to the right and her brother’s to the left. Her room wasn’t too far away just on the other side of her parents but she wasn’t sure if pointing that out would be entirely wise just then. She gave the door a nudge open and walked in flicking on the lights as she did so.
The walls were a crème color and the floor dark hard wood. There was a closet to on the back wall and a desk along the left. The bed was made with plain white sheets and coverlet, a comforter folded at the foot in case Tory found that he needed it. It wasn’t the largest room in the house but it was good size; not too small to feel cramped and not too large to feel as if there was empty space that wasn’t being filled.
“Well here we are.” She paused for a moment debating if she should repeat one of the many cliché lines murmured in movies or just leave it at that. It’d probably be simpler to leave it at that though. Hanging back by the door so she wouldn’t be in the way while Tory did what he wanted to.
