Instinctively Laura licked her lips as a nervous flutter rippled through her stomach. He was going to kiss her and she might actually be looking forward to it. This was so very confusing for her to experience. Yet she didn’t stop him from closing the distance between them. Besides it would be against the spirit of the tradition to pull away. For having not been inside very long his hand was warm against her skin, almost comforting.
Light as the kiss was, she found it quite nice. A little bit of tease, but quite nice. Wait, tease? Where that thought game from Laura couldn’t say, but that didn’t change she really wouldn’t mind the kiss lasting longer. Not that she was going to act on that and press another kiss to his oh so lovely lips. “I think so,” She murmured with a small laugh.
She knew that she should pull away but Laura didn’t move. A noise from above however saved her from having to try and rationalize the fact that she hadn’t moved. Pulling away she looked up at her twin looking down at them an amused smirk playing at his lips. Looked like she might not be saving Salvatore from anything after all.
“Mama and Papa want to meet you’re friend.” The way he emphasized the word friend made Laura uncomfortable. This was one of those rare occasions that she was unable to read what her brother was thinking. Granted it tended to be that he knew what she was thinking and she was just very aware of his feelings. But sometimes she was able to get a very good idea, just not then. Not that it changed the fact that she got the overwhelming feel of Jacques finding the whole situation funny.
Taking a breath Laura let it out slowly. “I guess I’ve monopolized you’re time long enough. Time to meet the rest of the family.” Slipping by him she led the way up the stairs and into the hall and then the next room where her parents were sitting comfortably. Her mother curled up under a throw blanket with a book on the loveseat while her father sat in a high backed chair with a business magazine lying open.
To the outsider they may look like they were just casually sitting around entertaining themselves in their own way, but to Laura she could see the fakeness of their positioning. She let her attention drift to the pictures hanging on the cream colored walls for a moment. When it returned back to her parents she moved further into the room, the wood floors creaking a little. “Mama. Papa.” She paused long enough for them look toward them her brother leaning against the doorway along the left wall. Well it could be worse; her sister Fiona could be home making things even more awkward and painful. “This is my friend Salvatore from school.”
Well she thought friend was the right word she wasn’t really sure what they were, or where they stood. Things were a little complicated at the moment. She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye looking for a reaction to her calling him a friend. Last time she checked friends did not make one feel that way, all nervous and excited at the same time while they stood under mistletoe.
"Salvatore, these are my parents and my brother Jacques."
