It was a bit frustrating and a bit of a relief to realize Jae was only joking. She looked down, glad her tan complexion helped disguise the faint flush from embarrassment. Misae counted her inability to read people among her major flaws. Still, the corners of her mouth turned up a tiny bit, a smile of relief mostly, she wouldn't have to talk herself out of a difficult situation now.
Before she could even speak, Jae's train of thought had clearly started to wander elsewhere. As he implied that Jaidev and Misae were a couple, she furrowed her brow. Why did everyone think that anyhow? She and Jaidev were clearly just friends who happened to go to a school function together. She was fairly certain that was normal and that no change had been made to their relationship. As she opened her mouth to explain to Jae that the power of love had nothing to do with she and Jaidev's win, the subject had changed yet again.
The sudden booming voice was a bit startling. There really wasn't a reason to be so loud, she was right across from him. Equally startling was when Jae referred to her as a pretty girl. Misae didn't think of herself as pretty, far from it. Her eyes were too close together, her face was too long and narrow, her nose was too wide and on top of all of that she was built like some sort of Amazon warrior princess. She blinked a few times, trying to regain composure and hoping that through some miracle Jae would just start talking about something else again. That however wasn't the case and so Misae tapped the chemistry book sitting in front of her. "Studying, science exam," her voice soft, barely above a whisper. "I find it easiest to work on my own."
