The pillow was turned over, the cool side meeting Billy's cheek as he watched Teddy fidget. That was making him nervous. Teddy never did stuff like that, even when he was bored. With a groan, as if it was so much work, Billy righted himself on the mattress, legs still tucked under him. His hair was matted to his head from being pressed against the pillow. "Remember that very first training session where we thought we'd get schooled by robots? Well, when you transformed, I had to tell someone. And the only one here I would have told was you, so I called 'em."
Billy waved his hand toward the jerky bag. "I kind of explained it like you were Michael Jackson in the Thriller video." His cheeks flushed some, knowing the comparison didn't give Teddy much credit. "But then I said that you could go full on wolf and run like hell. Well, I said heck, because it's my parents. They get on two different phones when I call, so Dad asked me what species of wolf you were and I told him I didn't know but you had a nice pelt. I doubt he'll ask you to transform, though."
Leaning his elbows on his legs, Billy leaned forward. "And I hate to burst your bubble, but you're not the first person under their roof that could transform." He was talking about himself, and even though it was a different sort of shift, it probably made it a little less shocking to his parents. "I'm under the impression that Dad'll have us chopping up wood for the fireplace. My folks were really accepting of me," he added, but left out one of the revelations they had come to on their own about Billy, "you'll probably be considered a Kaplan by the time you leave." He smiled and leaned back.
Chewing on his lower lip, Billy wanted to relieve any other stress Teddy might have. "But they don't know about all the stuff before you came to the school. They aren't the kind to pry, so unless you mention it, they won't bring it up. Mom'll probably ask about classes here and stuff, but it's a holiday, not an interrogation." Billy felt like he'd just talked for a long time.
"You...still wanna come home with me, right?" Now Billy was stressing.
