Draco couldn't remember the last time he'd caught a wink of sleep. It felt like years although he was sure it couldn't possibly be more than four days. He'd tried to count it out on a calendar but the lines and the numbers blurred together so badly he just couldn't separate them. It was all the vampire's fault, of course. He kept waiting for Kazimir to show up like when he turned a corner, went up the stairs, opened a door, closed his eyes! It was maddening! If he hadn't been looney before coming to the Sanctuary it had certainly drove him over the edge in the ten days that he'd been there.
He'd plodded through the whole day like a zombie, eating when he got hungry, trying to sleep, but mostly just wandering around the Sanctuary trying to distract himself or bore himself into a nap. All of his attempts had proven unsuccessful and after what seemed like an eternity he glanced at the clock and realized that in a few minutes, about ten, he'd have to go back to his room or he'd get locked out for the night. Given that being locked in his room was one of the highlights of his day, since it meant he would finally be safe, he certainly didn't want to miss out on that moment of solace.
Making his way up the stairs, Draco stumbled only twice before he made it to his room. Pushing the door open and then closed behind him, Draco saw only the bed when he looked in on the room and he made his way towards it eagerly. He was too tired to change into his night clothes, he was too tired to even remove his tie. In fact, he barely got out of his shoes before he flopped down on the mattress, pulling his legs up to his chest and closing his eyes. He was going to sleep. He was going to make it through the whole night even if he had to suffer through the most graphic, harrowing nightmares of his life. He just had to.
