Draco wasn't as knowledgeable about vampires as he would have liked and was disappointed that he couldn't find anything in the library on the subject, but if there was one thing he was fairly confident about it was the idea that those particular magical creatures probably, hopefully, didn't enjoy spending time outside when the sun was up. While he'd heard that the Auror would deal with Kazimir in order to keep him and the rest of the patients safe, Harry Potter's lackluster confidence in their head of security left Draco unsure and jumpy. As his day had progressed without any sight of his assailant, however, Draco felt more and more confident that he would be alright, at least for now.
Unfortunately for him the sun was starting to set and seeing as to how tonight was the full moon it meant more trouble for him than he had ever thought it would. There were vampires about and now, also and even more dangerous, werewolves. Unlike most wizards, Draco had had his fair share of encounters with werewolves, and then some. Not only had one been his instructor for a full school year but there was also Fenrir Greyback who spent an inordinate and uncomfortable amount of time glaring at him during Death Eater meetings and once Draco would insist that he'd actually seen the beast lick his lips when he had caught his eye.
None of this would explain why Draco was actually outside on such an evening actively trying to locate one. If he had any sense at all he would be back in his room getting ready for what would inevitably be a long, sleep-less night. Of course, if he did actually have any sense at all he probably wouldn't be in an insane asylum either, he reminded himself. It was cold outside being October and the sky having rained all day. Draco wore his warm robes to fend off the moisture and the climate, his breath curling in the chilly air like smoke from the end of a cigarette. Still it wasn't uncomfortable, not nearly as uncomfortable as all of the small noises that made him panic and his heart race.
He'd looked nearly everywhere for Arcturus but before he would even think about starting to ask the others he'd come across if they'd seen him, he was going to exhaust all options and that meant searching outside as well. Draco tried to stay on the path in order to keep his shoes clean and as he walked he tried to remain focused without making it look like he was out there for a specific reason. He wasn't sure if it was his paranoia or not but the further he got from the main building the more it felt like he was being watched, stalked, and hunted. Yes, that definitely was his lunacy coming out. Hopefully. It had better be.
