It's teeth had met flesh, sinking into muscle and tugging, as if to rip the shoulder it had caught from it's joint. But the blows raining down stopped it's frenzy. The suddenness of the onslaught was enough to bring the beast's attention round, it's bloodied teeth bared, and it's eyes mad and wide, yellow and empty black. It snapped at the cane, but had to twist itself to do so, unable to close it's teeth on wood, but able to claw at the undefended torso of it's attacker.
There was more noise now. Not only from the figure, but from within the fog, other voices, shouts. A shot rang out, echoing in the street and flying through the fog blindly. Another shot followed, sinking into the flesh of the creature, ripping a pained and angered roar from its throat. The two bloodied figures were forgotten, although it snapped once more at the cane, and ran into the fog, lost in the shifting shapes and the shadows of the night.
