Julia smiled back at her father, but didn't nod. She straightened her shoulders, standing straighter. She thought her father had his own best interests at heart, not hers, but she would put it out of her head for the night and worry about some other time.
"Don't worry, father," Julia responded. "I've been paying attention, and I've promised mother I'd come in early so she won't have to worry."
