Mariella stared at him for a moment, swirling the wine in her glass. Bring in another family? Even one with ties to the Edgars? It was not the done thing. Since there had been a Council a representative of the Edgar’s had had a seat there. A new family joining them was not something to be looked on lightly, and Mariella could not help but wonder why a man of such standing and good name as Lord Edgar would not want to ensure his family line. The new George Edgar had been different from his father in every way and so far a disappointment to them. It seemed that he was a disappointment in other areas of his life too, a bachelor still with no romantic attachments.
Out loud however she merely said. “Well, you would have to put the suggestion to the Council, but I’m sure they would find it with merit.” His next suggestion however made her glad that she had not take a sip of her wine, else she would have spat it out across the front of his clean, crisp white shirt.
“A new family? No, that would be out of the question.”
