Aurora made a face at Eppie's comment, narrowly resisting the childish urge to stick out her tongue. She knew she looked terrible, like she'd been run over by a land cruiser, but hearing the girl say it out loud did nothing to better her temperament. Especially considering how immaculate Eppie looked, all flawless makeup and shining locks. Blowing an errant strand of hair out of her face, Aurora shook her head.
"Awful nice of you to offer," she began with a half-smile, her momentarily wounded vanity soothed by Eppie's generosity. "But I'm comfortable where I am."
Where she happened to be was taking up half the table. Her feet were stretched out on the empty chair beside her, while she managed to angle her body so that her elbows rested on the table. It looked an awkward pose, but given Aurora's expression she evidently found it perfectly natural. She allowed her eyes to drift closed for a moment, her face becoming so still it seemed she might have fallen asleep. Then, without opening her eyes, she directed a question at Eppie.
