O Great Sorting Hat, Please Reveal My Fate!
The Basics
Name: Mary
Age: 18
Did one of our members refer you? If not, how did you find out about Hogwarts Rising? Yes! The awesome Lena//wingsofcaffeine. :D
General Personality In your opinion, what are your top five positive characteristics? Why?
In your opinion, what are your top five negative characteristics? Why?
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would you change? Why? Quite frankly, I wouldn't change a thing. I ended up as the person I am today because of who I was and still am. I rather like myself, so I'd prefer not to make any life-altering decisions. ;) And even if my calves are a bit too large or my eyes can't see distances without glasses, it's not like I can't deal with that. Either/Or - Choose one or the other. Explanations not required, but welcome. Make plans of be spontaneous? PLANNING. I will occasionally do something on the spur of the moment, but rarely. I love planning. XD If you were forced to choose, would you allow fifty strangers to die in the place of one of your loved ones? Explain. Ugh, that's rather hard. I deeply care for my loved ones, but those 50 people could also become someone who I care for. However, in the end, I think I'd sacrifice the 50 people. I know where I stand with my loved ones, but I'm not willing to bet any of their lives on the mere guess that I could end up enjoying someone else's company in addition to theirs. That's not fair to them. The Harry Potter Books Who is your favorite character in the Harry Potter series? Why? At this point in my life, I really love Luna Lovegood. She was her own person, without reservation or caveats; she didn't change who she was based upon other's opinions, but simply lived her own life. And, to top it all off, she was a wonderfully creative and calm person. These traits are something to be respected and even feared, perhaps. Luna had a lot of power and skill which JKR didn't really illustrate in the series. (and I wish she had!) Who is your least favorite character in the Harry Potter series? Why? This is going to sound weird, but I've been reading a ton of manipulative-Dumbledore fanfiction lately. XD What I've seen, and from what I've reread of the books, Dumbledore treated Harry rather unfairly. From the whole thing of letting him live with the Dursleys to the Triwizard Tournament, and even up to the lack of information and guidance he gave Harry, I think Dumbledore relied too much on the concept of "acting for the greater good" while dealing with Harry. That sort of manipulation and trickery is just something which leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If you went to school at Hogwarts, what canon character(s) would you be friends with? What canon character(s) would you not get along with. Explain. Friends: - Luna. Quirky, predominantly kind, intelligent? I think we'd have been best friends from the start. - Ginny. While she struck me as a bit overemotional, I think her daring nature and overall personality would be something that would be interesting to be around. I could see some wild pranks happening at Hogwarts, haha. XD - Hermione. I can really identify with her first-year bookworm self, since that's who I was when I was also young! Additionally, I think her older and more mature self would be very wise and always a great help for dealing with tricky problems. - Fleur. While I think Fleur gets an incomplete picture in GoF, I really think I would like her HBP/DH self. Confident, self-assured, intelligent, and loyal? That sounds like a very good combination to me, even if there's a bit of arrogance and vanity thrown in too. - Narcissa. I by no means believe we would be best friends, but I think she would be one interesting woman to talk to and ask for advice from. Her loyalty to family, even over the terror of DE's circumstances, is one very large redeeming trait; she would also be a great advisor for proper etiquette and dealing with pureblooded wizards. Enemies: - Draco. While I think he could've been interesting to talk with when he wasn't acting like a stuck-up prat, the arrogance would likely be far too difficult for me to get past. - Ernie MacMillan. He is far too much of a pompous idiot. Urg. :\ - Ron. The whole "emotional range of a teaspoon" and obliviousness to life around him would irritate me half to death. - Umbridge. D: She scares me, plain and simple. Her attitude toward others, the feeling of entitlement, the craziness.. not good. - Ludo Bagman. UGH. Too much talking and arrogance, plus he's a dishonest idiot. Not my type of person at all. If you had been given the Marauders Map so you could sneak out of the castle, what would you have done with it? Explain. OMG, so much mischief! XD Aside from the additional creative prank, I would probably use it to find faster ways to my classes or to the Great Hall or to my dorm in the Towers/Dungeons. If someone gave you enough Felix Felicis to last you one day, how would you spend that day? .. hehehehe. Pranking time! XD Additionally, I'd probably work on some tricky/confusing math homework, just so I could understand it better. (I wonder if knowledge gained under the influence of FF would stay with me for future use, or if that understanding would fade?) And I'd probably wander around, just meeting people who'd be handy to know in the future. What would amortentia smell like to you? Explain. 1. Freshly-mown grass, because it stirs up some of my deepest happy memories. (Riding my bike in the summer, playing in my front lawn, running around as a kid, picking flowers and cherries, just to name a few) 2. Chocolate chip cookies, again due to memories of enjoying cookies with friends and family. 3. Vanilla, once again due to memories of baking with my grandmother when I was younger. If you were given a time turner, what would you do with it? Explain. Hmm. While I'd be tempted to use it to give myself more time to travel/do homework/live, that probably would have some nasty repercussions if I used it constantly. Thus, I would likely use it to gain a few more minutes sleep in the morning before I have my 8AM class. XD What would you see in the Mirror of Erised? Do you see this coming to pass? Explain. My close family - all of them, including a future husband and children (maybe even grandkids!) - sitting together and just relaxing with each other. While I doubt this full picture could ever come true, the husband and kids will get here someday. I hope. ;) If you were faced with a boggart, what would it turn into? Why? A hospital room, cold and empty. I'd truly prefer not to elaborate on the circumstances, but suffice it to say that it deals with a death in my family. If money was no object and you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? While I, quite frankly, am the sort which prefers to stay home, I must admit that spending a few months exploring European countries (ie; France and England would be top on my list) would be so very awesome. To think of all the potential things one could do! Exploring Stonehenge, seeing classical art and architecture, visiting ancient sites.. <3 So awesome. Defining House Traits In your own words, define the following: Courage:The instinct to do what is right and follow your heart, even in the face of disapproval, a lack of popularity, or fear. Which house do you feel you belong in the least? Explain. (This is not an invitation to bash the various Hogwarts houses. I really love you, Slytherins, but I just don't feel that I possess the qualities of your house in massive doses. If I'm sneaky, I have to think about it; if I'm cunning, it's very rarely my first instinct. The only quality I might have would be a healthy dose of ambition, since that feels more instinctual than anything. To me, a Slytherin is naturally Slytherin-like; they don't have to force themselves to think in those ways, but those ways come naturally. |
