Journal Post-Anthony Goldstein

[info]neverfears
I know I shouldn't just say it like this, but it feels so good to be back running all cases and to have been fully cleared. I know I said it from the beginning that I hadn't anything to do with it and I couldn't have done, but to have it official is a real load off my shoulders.

In other news, I did wrap up a burglary case. Fair warning, while robes look very similar regardless of gender in a lot of ways, being a man wearing bright pink ones might be a bit of a tip off, especially when those particular ones are special order and from a particular batch that was just stolen from Madam Malkins.

He did, however, very much pull off the color. I had to be a little impressed there, as I would never have been so daring myself.

I'm sorry it's taken me a week to say anything of any merit, but it's also taken me several days to work through what has happened to me, and as a result, I have some things to say that are very important.

I did not tamper with evidence. I found an unsealed envelope addressed to Minister Shacklebolt, and upon looking inside it to verify if it was real, I saw it was sent by Altair Addison. Knowing that the Minister himself is still on the suspect list, I took my solicitors and brought the envelope to the DMLE in the hopes that it could help with the case.

I was never asked how I came to be in possession of the envelope. I was instead told that it should have been delivered to the Minister himself, rather than the DMLE. In other words, I was told I should have taken the evidence to one of the suspects who very well could have simply destroyed it if they happen to have been the killer and saw it as evidence against them (and then perhaps following that by killing me as the one who saw it in the first place) - I'm not saying I believe the Minister is the killer, but until he is exonerated, it's still a possibility.

It has been weeks and very little has been accomplished by the authorities, other than putting myself and George Weasley in cells at the Ministry in an effort to show that the DMLE still has power. I'm sorry, but I've already lived through a time of people in power throwing that power around, and I refuse to live in it again. If I'm going to be tossed into a cell whether I cooperate or not, then that is not a side I want to be cooperating with.

From this moment forward, I am refusing any and all cooperation with the DMLE in their investigation into the murder of Altair Addison.

I know that there is power in numbers and would appreciate any other 'suspects' who would join me. I'm doing this publicly in the hopes that someone else can step forward and investigate this case in a proper and ethical manner, treating all suspects fairly and justly. (Yes, even Adrian Pucey whom I wish all the worst fate has to offer.) Even if I'm alone, I will stand alone for I would rather stand alone against injustice than bend to the will of tyranny.

I realize that the past week and a half have been stressful for everyone involved, and I want to thank the investigators for doing their utmost to bring the killer to justice swiftly. Altair Addison was an asset to the Ministry, and his presence is missed already.

Despite the tragedy, I'd like to remind everyone to take pleasure in the small joys life offers up. Today our one year old daughter took her first steps on her own, and the smile on her face as she came toddling towards me reminded me that even in dark hours there is light to be found.

I've had quite enough of being hounded with questions. Wasn't being detained all night bad enough? The only people who should really be asking me, or anyone else for that matter, anything are the investigators.

That being said, I would like to remind all the amateur sleuths out there that I'm only one among several people, and therefore very unlikely to have had anything to do with anything, so let's move on, shall we?

I suppose I should be glad I was out on assignment, but in truth I'm more concerned that it happened at all. I can't say I knew Addison well, which isn't all that surprising given the size of the Ministry, but the loss of a colleague and surely a good man is still hard-felt.

I also think it's really rather surprising that the Daily Prophet should publish a list of suspects. Surely it would be best to wait until it's been narrowed down. Doing it in this manner only pushes public suspicion on innocent people, and like it or not the all but possibly one are likely to be innocent. I had hoped the days of this sort of journalism was well and truly over.

That said, I this doesn't take long because I have quite a fair bit of paperwork to do and at the moment it's locked in my office where it really isn't going to do itself.

Oh poor Mr. Addison. Such a horrible thing to happen. He didn't deserve that. Nobody does.

Miss Skeeter paints quite the story. That list of individuals certainly piques my interest for her reasons. But she gave my name as well. It's rather dramatic to get swept up in one her pieces for the first time, but I haven't much more a clue as to what made me worthy, or anyone else. No doubt in a few more days, I can satisfy my curiosity in her next article.

This is all so messed up. I certainly didn't do it, and I should be helping to find the real killer. I'm a HIT WIZARD after all.

This is all a bloody nightmare.

I've had some late nights at the office before, but last night was ridiculous.

And of course, I predict many more of them in my future.

After another sip he pulled off his shirt and laid topless across the sofa, bleary eyed and ready for the weekend. It was then he remembered he had a housemate. )
