A Guide to being a bad moderator
This is by NO means a complete list, however it includes things that have happened to me, or other players in a game I was in for a total of about a month before I was kicked out... enjoy. 1. DEFINITION: Backplot, Backdate, God-mod, Clique Backplot= rps that have taken place way in the past (such as rping the yule ball from GOF in a post-warts game to set up an existing relationship. Backdate= setting a date back a little in a log/thread because you missed the posting date. IE: If it's the 3rd in game, but you missed the 2nd, you'd put BACKDATED to the 2nd. (you really need to learn the difference between those two words!!!) Godmodding is the act of manipulating someone's character without the player's permission. MY character asking another character a simple question is NOT god-modding. You, as mods, using a PLAYED CHARACTER as an NPC in a log she isn't a part of...IS. Clique= A clique in rpg's is typically a group of players who only play with eachother. I like how I got accused of being cliquey, considering my charries played with anyone who wanted to play and talked to people they didn't even know. Whereas, the clique from v 1.0 of your game was active and going strong...but hey...mods were in that one. 2. CONSISTENCY/COMMUNICATION Quit saying one thing, then changing it without telling us then yelling at us for it. On the same note, as mods you SHOULD theoretically communicate with eachother...considering one mod tells me another has an issue...then that mod says she never knew anything about it...something's rotten in the state of Denmark. 3. NPCS In a game where parents don't matter in the plot, it is NOT within mod jurisdiction to control the parents of a character I created. Sorry. Even IF you think I made him 'stupid' but as I've already said: "Cause like, denying Voldemort was back and alienating your family was the smartest thing he's ever done..." NPC's that are only played by a certain person, you're right, should only be played by that person. Percy was MY npc, and the player who plays his other daughter had NO ISSUE with how I played him. And it had nothing to do with YOU. 4. ACTIVITY You advertised, I applied. You said you died because of inactivity. I was active. I got scolded for it because you were 'overwhelmed' and the game 'wasn't meant to be so active' ... em? REALLY? 5. HYPOCRISY You okayed every single personal plot I had. Then used them as part of the reason you kicked me out? Well done. 6. NIT-PICKING For the past 2 weeks I couldn't go 3 days without at least one mod criticizing something I did... and none of it was something I'd done wrong... way to treat your players. Especially your active ones. 7. DELETING THREADS WITHOUT CONSULTING YOUR PLAYERS Ok, so you kicked me and my friend out. Well done. Before we could save our logs you deleted every one my friend's Dominique did. Because YOU wanted the role back and wanted nothing left of the one who wasn't yours. Fair enough. But you should have asked the others she'd rped with if you could erase their development. Wrong in sooo many ways. 8. "OVERWHELMING" I've heard this word at least 3 times a day for a month from 2 of you. Usually explaining why you hadn't tagged my threads in days, or why you hadn't updated the lists or done any sort of plot or admin. Here's the thing, running a good game like you want to have takes WORK. If you can't do threads, or finish your own user infos, let alone maintain admin... YOU SHOULD NOT BE MODDING! Don't take it out on me because I can balance rl with rp. 9. BADGERING Don't tell me I'm badgering you for replies to my threads when I ask once a day or less, and you've not tagged me in a week. It boxes in my characters, waiting like that. RL and such is one thing but you could at least manage 3 tags a day. 10. RESPECT How many times was I told that you felt like I was disrespecting you, by merely existing in the game really? Here's the thing, how can players respect mods who do not respect their players? You've shown this on countless occasions. 11. PLOT Ok, so it is a plot-driven game. I get it. I loved that fact. But you can't seem to keep up with the plot you create and so plots either die or never happen. Then you want to involve characters in plot but you seem to think discussing your plans with the muns you choose to include is wrong or something... when they likely need to know what their character is getting into. OH and for the record? Every game can't function on game plot alone. Individuals need personal plots to develop. I wish you'd understood that. 12. LIES I didn't deserve to be kicked out of your game, as I'd done nothing wrong. But I'd rather be out than have the drama. But you should likely quit lying to people... you've lied to me and others on several occasions. And this goes back to respect... there's no point in lying to make yourselves look better because there's no way that's going to happen. ---- Now---- This is a rant. I'm not naming the game. I like two of the mods outside of rp. I don't think they should be modding a game, and I certainly don't think the other one should either...then again that mod also likes to play horrible mary sues from hell... but I digress... This is just a rant about bad mods in general, based on my experiences within that game. I know there's more, so I'll likely be adding to it as I remember. |
