Severus handed the owl a treat. He only kept the best owl treats, the birds did tend to bite otherwise. He traces one of the S’s on the top of the box. It was monogramed in black enamel with tiny emerald chips scattered across its silver top. SS, Severus Snape, stupid snake, sexy Slytherin, sluggish simpleton. He preferred sexy Slytherin at the moment. He turned the parchment over in his hand it was simply address ‘Severus’.
A flick of the finger broke the nub of wax that sealed the parchment. It was from Remus. He re-read it. It was an invitation to dinner. An actual, premeditated invitation to dinner. He couldn’t remember the last one he had received. They would be going to a small bistro off Diagon Alley called Zombie Fromage. An odd name to be sure. Severus hoped that it meant after a dinner your brain insisted that 'you must have cheese'.
First, however, he needed to accept the invitation. Next would be to find something to wear and perhaps get his hair trimmed. Finally, he would need to stop acting as if he were schoolgirl with her first crush. He rolled his eyes at himself, pulled his weskit straight and sat down stiff-backed at his desk. With a flick of his wand his parchment weights skittered into place on the top of a piece of parchment. He retrieved his best green ink, which appeared almost black and wrote a short note of acceptance. It only took him three attempts.
