Sequel to yesterday's post


Severus could smell breakfast before he rounded the kitchen doorway. Lupin stood at the cooker in an apron of all things.
"Coffee and toast are ready. The bacon and eggs should be done in a moment."
"Lupin, you know that wasn't a date." Severus admonished. "It wasn't even a conquest."
Remus grinned. "I know. With you I don't expect it to be a conquest, it will be very mutual."
Severus gaped uncharacteristically speechless.
"Drink some coffee. There's grapefruit marmalade and butter. Go on, sit."
The enticing scent of the coffee won him over and Severus sat. "Grapefruit marmalade? Most people have orange."
"Well, I not most people and grapefruits were on sale." Remus said as he dished up the rest of the meal.
"You made it yourself?" Severus couldn't disguise his astonishment.
"I need something to do between slumming with the werewolf packs and looking for real work." Remus shrugged. "Sorry to say you missed the lime variety it was spectacular except it did make me want to have a gin and tonic with breakfast."
Severus shook his head and tucked into the food in front of him. Except for the forks scraping across the plates, they ate in silence.
"I left your nightshirt on the bed, assuming you didn't want your housemate to know I was here."
"It's none of Sirius' business either way." Remus stated firmly.
"I doubt he would see it that way, this being his house and all." Severus quirked one eyebrow.
"My bed partners are none of his concern, he prefers to pretend I'm straight anyway."
Severus rolled his eyes. "A tribute to Gryffindor stubbornness."
"Or something." Remus agreed.
"I'd best be going." Severus glanced around hastily.
"If you ever need a place to stay, you know where I am." Remus smiled.
Severus tamped down a sappy reply and merely nodded. He had classes to attend and hormones to tame.
