Title:
Cold Front
Characters:
Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew
Rating:
PG
Summary:
The Burrow is warm, but outside a storm is coming.
October 31, 1981: an ordinary day, or it would have been, had Remus not heard a tiny owl tapping at his kitchen window.
Arthur's away. Are you lonely, too? Come for tea this afternoon.
It had been weeks since Remus had tea with anyone. But why not? He had the day off. Life goes on.
*
The kitchen at the Burrow smelled like cinnamon and baking bread.
“Remus! Remus!” Bill bounced up and down.
“Good to see you again,” Molly said. “You and Bill can help me with these toffee apples.”
“Eights apples and one onion,” Bill whispered. “Someone will be mad!”
“How are you?” Molly asked. “You look tired.”
“I’m fine,” Remus said. “No word from Lily and James or the others.”
“I’m sure they’re safe,” Molly said, touching his shoulder.
*
Stopping at Hogsmeade on the way home, Remus recognized a blond head.
“Peter!” he called against the howling wind. Dry leaves swept past.
Peter turned and stared, mouth twitching.
“Good to see you!” Remus said. “Molly says hello.”
“I...” Peter was inching away. “I’ve got to go.”
“Send me an owl!” Remus called. He shivered, pulling his cloak closer. A cold front was moving in.
