Halloween Gift for Dani_Meows

Gift for: [info]dani_meows

From: [info]inamac

Title: Genetic Anomaly
Characters: Mrs Figg, Minerva, Augusta Longbottom, Harry, Hermione, Crookshanks
Rating: Gen
Summary: A traditional Halloween includes witches, broomsticks, and cats - even in Surrey.
Notes: My giftee asked for 'anything happy', and indicated a fondness for black cats. The title is my beta's fault.

Genetic Anomaly

The residents of Little Whinging did not acknowledge Halloween. Consequently it was regarded as a further measure of the craziness of 'the cat lady' that a carved pumpkin appeared annually at the gate of Mrs Figg's cottage to indicate that costumed visitors would be welcome.

The surprise, to those who watched from behind starched net curtains, was that people in strange attire did make their way up the herb-bordered garden path.

A few might have recognised the Potter boy in his striking red cloak and even the tall, bespectacled lady in pointed hat and broomstick. The equally venerable dowager incongruously bedecked like some Gothic Cleopatra in severely pleated robe and vulture headdress might have raised eyebrows. The final visitors, a bushy-haired young lady also bearing a broomstick and accompanied by a disreputable ginger cat, looked almost normal by comparison.

Once inside Minerva and Augusta greeted their hostess warmly, Harry and Hermione with more reserve, and Crookshanks with a feline disdain that he had not shown on the previous occasion of his visit.

The focus of the gathering was the result of that visit.

"They don't look like their father," Hermione remarked.

In their basket, the fat black Kneazle kittens purred.

You're welcome. I love Kittens - and have a lot of sympathy with Mrs Figg. Was delighted to get your prompt.
