A/N: SS/HG  Snape and Phineas don't think the story is very funny, but Hermione is amused...

I won't have internet access 'til next Monday and figured too early was better than too late!

Severus Snape often thought that if he had a conscience, it would sound a great deal like Phineas Nigellus.

"You are not seriously considering attending the Feast dressed like that?"  The portrait gave a delicate shiver.  "And to think of the hopes I used to have for you.  The first Slytherin Headmaster in nearly two centuries and you are determined to make a mockery of the House."

"She is my wife, I will do whatever it takes to make her happy."  He did his best to ignore the significant silence emanating from the other side of the room.  Snape sighed as Hermione arranged his hat at a jaunty angle.  "And I lost a bet."

 A rather Snape-like smirk appeared on the portrait's face.  "Just what would Hermione have been dressing as had you won?"  Phineas shook his head.  "This must be one of the most idiot things you have ever done. And considering your choice of a wife and track record of...former employers that is saying something." 

"Could be worse," Hermione shot back to the picture, "my first idea was to make him show up dressed as Harry Potter."

"So now he is left appearing as Godric Gryffindor for Halloween?"
