Thunk.
One for the greatest wizard of the age. Oddly, this was the least of the ghosts that haunted him. It was akin to being named after Merlin--ridiculous and embarrassing, but understandable. However, the irony of sitting in Charms class and producing nothing while the memory of Albus Dumbledore clung to him was too much to bear some days.
He swung down the ax again.
Thunk.
Two for the greatest betrayer. From all accounts, Severus Snape was not a nice man. He'd clung to his father's words that he had been the bravest of men, but the fear that this was the ghost he most resembled still hung over him. Slytherin. Quiet. Withdrawn.
Another swing.
Thunk.
Three for the legacy of The Boy Who Lived. The halls of Hogwarts still echoed with the memory of a young Harry Potter, brave and brash. The second Potter son was nothing of the sort and everyone else had noticed. He had been weighed and measured and found wanting.
One more swing, with all the weight of his names behind it.
Crack!
The giant pumpkin split. Albus Severus sighed in relief and dropped the ax. It had helped. For now.
